Dr. Jeffries, an Environmental Toxicologist and Physiologist, joined TCU's Biology Department in 2013. A native of Omaha, Dr. J received both her B.S.and M.S. in Biology from the University of Nebraska - Omaha. Under the supervision of Dr. Alan Kolok, she completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her dissertation research focused on evaluating the presence and biological impacts of endocrine disrupting compounds in agriculturally-intense Nebraska watersheds. After finishing her Ph.D. in 2010, Dr. J completed her training in the Department of Zoology at Miami University as a post-doctoral fellow. Working with Dr. Jim Oris, she expanded her research interests to include ecotoxicological risk assessment and the development of alternative toxicity testing methods. Since arriving at TCU, Dr. J has established an active research lab, providing both undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to pursue research. The lab is currently pursuing several lines of research in the areas of toxicology and physiology. If you are interested in conducting research in the Jeffries lab, click here to learn more.
In addition to research, Dr. J regularly teaches three upper-level courses in the Biology Department - Mammalian Physiology, Vertebrate Endocrinology, and Principles of Toxicology. She also serves on the Pre-Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC), the Biology Department's Committee on Graduate Studies (COGS), the Biology Department's Undergraduate Research Committee (URC), and is actively involved with the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.

Outside of research and teaching, Dr. J enjoys spending time outdoors, cooking, snorkeling, traveling, and goofing around with her husband, Eric (aka Mr. J). Dr. J loves animals and one cat named Sam and a standard poodle named Hatchet. While Sam is quite content to stay home and sleep through the day, Hatchet enjoys hiking, camping, and going to the dog park with Dr. J and Eric.
